Koganei Park

Koganei Park is one of Tokyo's largest and most versatile parks, spanning approximately 79 hectares in the western part of the city. Best known as the home of the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, the park also boasts some of the finest cherry blossom viewing in all of Tokyo, with over 1,700 cherry trees lining its broad avenues. The park's immense scale provides ample space for sports, picnics, and leisurely exploration.

What to Expect

The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is the park's crown jewel, featuring over 30 historically significant buildings from the Edo, Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods that have been relocated and meticulously reconstructed. Visitors can explore traditional farmhouses, merchant shops, a public bathhouse, and even a street of early 20th-century buildings. The cherry blossom avenue is spectacular in spring, drawing large crowds for hanami parties. The park also includes a steam locomotive display, sports fields, tennis courts, a cycling course, and vast open lawns perfect for families. The adjacent Tamagawa Josui water channel adds a historic waterway element to the landscape.
