Hikarigaoka Park

Hikarigaoka Park is a sprawling metropolitan park spanning approximately 36 hectares in Nerima Ward, making it one of the largest parks in western Tokyo. Built on the former site of the Grant Heights US military housing complex, the park opened to the public in 1981 and has since become a vital green space for residents and visitors.

The park serves as a major recreational hub for the surrounding community, offering extensive sports facilities alongside beautifully landscaped areas. Its wide-open spaces and diverse amenities make it a popular destination for family outings, athletic activities, and seasonal celebrations throughout the year.

What to Expect

The park features comprehensive sports facilities including baseball fields, a running track, tennis courts, and a gymnasium. Large open lawns provide ample space for picnics, casual sports, and relaxation. During spring, the park's cherry blossom trees create a beautiful display that draws visitors for hanami celebrations.

A notable feature is the Yurinoki Hiroba (Chestnut Tree Plaza), which serves as a central gathering space. The park also includes a barbecue area, a municipal library, and well-maintained walking paths that circle the grounds. The sheer scale of the park means it rarely feels crowded, even on busy weekends.
