Yumenoshima Park
Yumenoshima Park, whose name poetically translates to "Dream Island Park," is built on one of Tokyo's most remarkable transformation stories. The park sits on reclaimed land that was once a massive landfill site. Through extensive environmental remediation and landscaping, this former waste dump has been reborn as a sprawling 43-hectare green space that opened in 1978, serving as a powerful symbol of urban regeneration.
The park gained international attention when it hosted the archery events during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Today it continues to serve as a major recreational destination for eastern Tokyo, offering a diverse range of facilities and attractions that draw visitors from across the metropolitan area.
What to Expect
The park's crown jewel is the Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome, a striking architectural landmark housing over 1,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants in three interconnected glass domes. The greenhouse maintains warm, humid conditions year-round, creating an immersive tropical experience in the heart of Tokyo.
Beyond the greenhouse, the park offers extensive sports facilities including the Yumenoshima Stadium and the BumB Tokyo Sports Culture Center. The Tokyo Yumenoshima Marina provides boat mooring and waterfront activities along the canals. The Daigo Fukuryu Maru Exhibition Hall preserves the history of a Japanese fishing vessel exposed to nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll. Open green spaces, cherry blossom trees, and walking paths complete the diverse offerings.
