Kiyosumi Garden

Kiyosumi Garden is a stunning traditional Japanese strolling garden located in Koto Ward, Tokyo. Originally the estate of a wealthy Edo-period merchant, the garden was later redesigned by Iwasaki Yataro, founder of the Mitsubishi conglomerate. It is renowned for its exceptional collection of stones gathered from across Japan, each carefully placed to create a landscape of remarkable beauty and cultural significance.

What to Expect

The garden centers around a large pond with distinctive stepping stones (isowatari) that allow visitors to walk across the water's surface while enjoying close-up views of koi fish and turtles. The grounds feature a refined teahouse perched at the water's edge, perfect for enjoying matcha with a view. Numerous rare stones and rocks from every region of Japan are arranged throughout the landscape, creating miniature mountains and scenic compositions. Cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn maples provide seasonal highlights.
