Kyu Shiba Rikyu Garden
Kyu Shiba Rikyu Garden is one of Tokyo's most elegant historic gardens, originally constructed in the 17th century as a feudal lord's residence during the Edo period. Once a tidal garden that drew water from Tokyo Bay, this beautifully preserved landscape offers a peaceful escape just steps from the bustling Hamamatsucho district. The garden is designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
What to Expect
The garden is built around a large circular pond with carefully placed islands, stone bridges, and a classic Japanese landscape design. Majestic pine trees, including the famous sprawling pine at the water's edge, frame postcard-perfect views. A teahouse offers traditional tea ceremony experiences overlooking the pond. Despite being surrounded by modern skyscrapers, the garden maintains an atmosphere of timeless tranquility. Koi fish, turtles, and seasonal flowers add to the serene ambiance throughout the year.
